and pulling it from the outlet. Never yank or twist  
cord to unplug.

Do not substitute any other Kettle.  
21. To prevent scalds, do not force lid when closing or  
opening. Hot steam trapped under the lid could burn  
your fingers.

CAUTION  
Do not immerse base or Kettle in water.  
To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not  
remove the bottom cover of base. No user serviceable  
parts inside. Return the Kettle to the retail location  
where it was purchased for examination, repair or  
adjustment.  
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS  
The Kettle has a short cord to reduce the hazards of  
becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. An  
extension cord may be used if the rating is equal to or  
greater than the rating of the Kettle. Use an extension cord  
rated 13 amperes or greater. Care must be taken to arrange  
extension cord so that it will not drape over countertop or  
tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or tripped  
over unintentionally.  
Operating the Kettle and another appliance at the same  
time from the same electrical circuit could cause an  
electrical overload condition, which would blow the fuse  
or trip the circuit breaker.  
SPECIAL POLARIZED PLUG

The Philips Kettle has a polarized plug (one blade is wider  
than the other).To reduce the risk of electric shock:  
• Plug will fit into polarized outlet only one way.  
• If plug does not properly fit outlet at first, reverse it.  
• If plug still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician.

Using the Kettle

Wind excess power cord around the bottom of  
the appliance base.

Place the base of the Kettle on a cool, even level surface,  
out of the reach of children. Plug cord into a 120V AC  
electrical outlet.  
Only use the Kettle in combination with its original base.

Fill the Kettle with water.  
Do not put less than 4 oz. / 0.1 liters of water in the Kettle.  
Never fill the Kettle while it is standing on its base. If the Kettle boils  
dry, it will switch off automatically.Then wait 10 minutes before  
filling with water and switching the Kettle back on again.  
Do not fill the Kettle beyond the "MAX" indication.  
If too much water has been put in the Kettle, boiling water may  
spurt out from spout.

Kettle may be filled through the spout or by opening the lid  
to directly fill reservoir.

Close the lid and put the Kettle on its base.The Kettle is  
equipped with 360° pirouette center connector.

The Kettle starts heating up and the Pilot Light will illuminate.

You can interrupt the boiling process by pressing the  
On ( ) /Off ( ) button OFF ( ).

The appliance switches off automatically and a bell signals  
when the water reaches the boiling point.  
Remove the Kettle from base to pour.  
• If Kettle is used often, steam condensation may collect in small  
amounts in the Kettle base.  
• Avoid handling areas of the Kettle which may become hot or emit  
steam while Kettle is operating.  
• Do not clean or store Kettle until it has cooled.  
Cleaning the Appliance

Switch Kettle OFF ( ).Then unplug the base of the appliance

from electrical outlet.

Clean the outside of the appliance with a cloth moistened  
with warm soapy water, or a non-abrasive cleaner.  
Do not use any abrasive cleaning cleansers, scourers, etc. to clean  
the appliance.  
Never immerse the Kettle or its base in water.

Cleaning the Anti-Scale Filter  
Scale is not harmful but it may give your drink a powdery taste.  
The anti-scale filter prevents scale particles from ending up in your  
drink. Clean the filter regularly.  
Switch Kettle OFF (O). Unplug the base from electrical outlet.

Remove the filter.

Clean the filter under running tap water while gently brushing  
the filter with a soft nylon brush.

Properly snap the filter into Kettle.

Warning Do Not put the scale filter loosely into the Kettle.

Descaling  
Regular descaling will prolong the life of the appliance.  
When you descale the Kettle, you can also descale the filter at the  
same time by simply leaving it in the appliance.  
Depending on the hardness of the water, small spots may appear on  
the heating elements. Scale build up is perfectly normal. Scale is  
harmless, but left unattended it can hinder optimal Kettle performance.  
De-scale regularly.

Fill the Kettle with water up to three-quarters of the MAX  
capacity in the water window, press the ON ( ) button, and

bring the water to a boil.

After the Kettle has switched OFF ( ), add white vinegar (8%)

up to the MAX level in the water indicator.  
Leave the solution in the Kettle overnight.  
Empty the Kettle and rinse the inside thoroughly.

Fill the Kettle with clean water, press the ON ( ) button,

and boil the water.

Empty the Kettle and rinse it with clean water again.  
Repeat this procedure if there is still some scale in the Kettle.
