Replacing the Power Supply

Th is update replaces th e procedure provided in th e Gateway

8450R System Manual.

Th e redun dan t 350-W power supply provides all system

power. If on e of th e com pon en ts of th e power distribution

h ardware fails, you m ust replace th e en tire power supply.

1 Turn off th e server an d discon n ect th e power cord an d

all periph erals.

2 Rem ove th e bezel an d both top pan els followin g th e

in struction s in th e system m an ual.

3 Rem ove th e four screws th at secure th e upper drive bay

bracket in place, th en slide th e bracket forward before

liftin g it from th e ch assis.

4 Discon n ect th e cables from th e bottom fron t side of th e

h ot-plug fan tray. Note th e location an d orien tation of

each cable so you can con n ect th em correctly to th e n ew

board.

7 Loosen th e captive th um bscrew at th e bottom of th e

power supply fron t, th en slide th e power supply forward

un til it stops.

8 Tilt th e power supply forward an d lift it up an d back to

clear th e tab on th e bottom of th e ch assis.

9 Holdin g th e n ew power supply with th e back sligh tly

elevated, place th e n ew power supply over th e tab on th e

bottom of th e ch assis, th en rotate it so th at it rests flat

on th e bottom of th e ch assis.

10 Slide th e power supply back so th at th e tabs on th e

bottom back edge of th e power supply slide un der th e

slots on th e bottom of th e ch assis.

11 Tigh ten th e captive th um bscrew at th e bottom of th e

power supply to secure it in place.

12 Place th e fan tray in th e ch assis an d secure it with th e

screws you rem oved in Step 5.

13 Recon n ect th e cables you rem oved in Step 4.

14 Place th e upper drive bay bracket on th e top of th e ch assis.

Make sure th e tabs on th e bottom of th e bracket fit in to

th e slots at eith er side of th e ch assis.

15 Slide th e upper drive bay bracket back to set th e tabs, th en

replace th e four screws you rem oved in Step 3.

16 Close th e case.

17 Recon n ect th e power cord an d all extern al periph erals,

th en turn on th e server.
