iv Upgrade Hi-Lite Color to HC2
HC1 to HC2 Upgrade
The information contained in this document is to be used by customers who are
planning to upgrade their InfoPrint Hi-Lite Color 4005 HC1 to a InfoPrint Hi-Lite
Color 4005 HC2.
The HC1 has eight 1.27 mm (0.4 inch) printheads with 96 inkjets each and the HC2
has eight 2.72 cm (1.06 inch) printheads with 256 inkjets each . The upgrade
affects the following:
1. Applications
2. Supplies and Features
3. Installation
Applications and Machine Setup
The HC1 applications are compatible with the HC2.
The Setups for the HC1 must be saved (Configure HCPP) before the installation
starts. When the HC2 has been tested, the Setups are read (Configure HCPP).
The InfoPrint 4000 must be at level 8.523 or higher.
Supplies and Features
The HC1 supplies and features are not compatible with the HC2. These include ink,
ink reservoir, and printheads. The upgrade installs one HC2 ink reservoir and eight
HC2 printheads. Additional reservoirs and printheads are not included in the base
upgrade. If additional ink reservoirs and/or printheads are required, these need to
be ordered separately.
Note: HC1 ink is not compatible with the HC2 ink, because HC1 ink causes severe
damage to the HC2. Do not use HC1 ink in the HC2 ink reservoir.
New ink must be available at the account before the planned installation date.
Custom colors must go through the design process for the new ink.
Installation
The installation of the upgrade takes approximately 1 week. The installation activity
requires working space. This means the following:
1. There are two methods for the upgrade
v Removing the HC1 from its current location so that the InfoPrint 4000 can still
be used during the upgrade installation.
– Time to remove the HC1 from its current position and move the
post-processing equipment will affect the InfoPrint 4000 operation and
must be scheduled.
– Time to move the post-processing equipment, install the HC2, and test will
affect InfoPrint 4000 operation and must be scheduled.

v Leaving the HC1 in its current location during the upgrade installation. This
would require the InfoPrint 4000 to use its own stacker during the entire
upgrade.
2. A working area to accommodate the installation 3302 mm x 3633 mm (130 inch
x 143 inch) must be provided.
3. Additional area, large enough to accommodate unpacking and storing upgrade
parts (approximately 3048 mm x 3048 mm (120 inch x 120 inch) must be
provided.
